    How it works

    1. Upload the .sav

We read the variables and their labels straight from the file, with their types and categories.

    2. Pick the banner

The variable that runs across the columns. Every other variable is crossed against it, one table each.

    3. Download the Excel

A workbook with one sheet per table: percentages, bases, and 95% significance letters.

    What it actually does

A cross-tabulation shows how each group answered separately. The banner variable defines the columns; every other variable in the file becomes a table with its categories down the rows.

Each table carries its base, column percentages and significance letters: a letter in a cell means that column is significantly higher than the column carrying that letter, at 95% confidence. Bases under 30 cases get no letters, because with that few cases the test says nothing.

The engine is the same one our market-research clients use for their deliverables. The free version computes up to 200 tables per file; if yours would produce more, we trim and tell you how many were left out rather than failing.

    Frequently asked questions

    What about the open ends?

A cross-tabulation needs variables that are already coded. If you have uncoded open-ended questions, that is the job Survey Coder Pro does.
